All of our chicken is mobile pasture-raised.  That means that the chickens are moved to new fresh grass every few days, so they are in a totally clean, fresh environment, just like they would if they were living in the wild.  They are able to eat new forages, lay down on clean land, be under the sun, have clean water and a clean home.  They lay their manure down and eat everything down, and we move them again to new pastures every day.  

Since layers overwinter and it becomes too inhospitable on the pastures in the cold, we also have a cold season cozy setup for our birdies, where they continute to eat pasture, just dried pasture.  They continue to play under the sun, dust bathe, all the regular things they do.  This time we are providing the continual clean bedding. And, when the chickens go back out to pasture in spring, we harvest, what will turn into black gold - the best compost we have ever seen!  Dan carefully tends the compost over the course of a year.  The following spring, we dole it out over our pastures and veggie plots, creating a closed-loop ecosystem.  Animals eat the plants and feed the plants too, nature's blueprint for health and regeneration.

This makes for the cleanest, nutrient-dense food, from animals living a real life under the sun and stars, eating forages, mobbing together, manuring, and moving on to fresh pasture.
